After the success of the Koopor Mini 60 watts TC, Koopor decided to improve their game by launching a more impressive device for temperature control, also known as the Koopor Plus, which contains all the awesome features of the mini WITH more, including extended battery life, support for stainless steel coils, and a load of other features. Koopor is actually a company owned by the same group of people behind the much more popular SMOK. Despite being in the market for only a few months, they already made a hit with their two very popular products, and I’m sure that there’s more to come. Before going into the actual review, I would like to say that the Koopor Plus is not recommended for beginners, and there are other lower powered and user-friendly devices out there.
Price
The Koopor Plus is retailed at around $50 USD, an extremely cheap price for such a high powered mod! Any other mod which has an output of up to 200 watts would definitely cost more. Let us look at the features that this new mod from Koopor offers.
Features
In a nutshell, the Koopor Plus has all the features of the Koopor Mini, however is a bigger and more powerful version. It offers many other features which I will be going through. In terms of design, there are very few differences, as both are made out of the same material, and the button design and layout is the same. Even the magnetic battery cover is identical, nothing surprising seeing as it is an upgrade from the Koopor Mini.
The main differences is that the Mini only has a maximum output of 60 watts, while the Koopor Plus pushes the limit to a massive 200 watts. Rarely any vapers would actually venture into anything more than 160 watts, but still, more power is always better! Cloud chasing fans however, would definitely be impressed with the capabilities of this mod!
Another major difference is that it houses dual separate 18650 batteries, and is among one of the biggest and heaviest mods you can buy.
User Experience
Let me start off by the design and build quality. It is a great looking mod which I really like, and feels solid enough to handle some pounding or drops. There are some things that I would like to see improved, such as the lacquer coating which comes off if users do not take care of the device. Putting it in something abrasive such as tight jeans will peel the coating off after a while, which is a drawback. This however, does not affect the performance whatsoever, just the looks. One good thing is that Koopor has included a bright orange silicone sleeve to help protect the mod.
Another flaw that I’d liked to see fix is of course, the standard issue of rattling buttons. Buttons tend to rattle in most mods, however I had no such issue with my Koopor Plus, but I had seen some forum posts from users who complained about this issue. This would be something to do with the stringent quality control requirements I suppose.
Enough of the cons, lets go to the features! According to the company’s website, the Koopor Plus is a mod that can breathe, not literally though. It is not a marketing gimmick however, as the magnetic battery cover features no less than 100 large air holes punched to keep the batteries cool even under heavy duty usage. Underneath it, the mod body is punched full of air holes to cool down the internal circuitry, and helps to avoid overheating. Turning the mod upside down would reveal another extra 24 air holes, and this is possibly the only mod with so many venting options!
Speaking of the battery cover, I really liked the design of it. It snaps into place with the help of eight powerful magnets, and does not wobble or rattle during use. It slides up and down, so there’s no wobbling when gripping it.
The micro USB port at the bottom of the Koopor Plus would lead some inexperienced users to think they can charge it, but that is not the case. Like the iPV 3, the USB port hole is used for firmware upgrades only, not for charging! It uses 2 separate 18650 batteries, and needs an external charger to charge it, like most high powered mods. Battery life is wonderful, and make sure to use batteries with high enough amperage for low ohm builds.
With regards to the LED display which is stationed at the side of the mod, the LED features all necessary information that users will need, There is a battery life icon, resistance, and current wattage / temperature setting on the screen. When the fire button is pressed, the current voltage is displayed, and the wattage will be replaced with a timer which shows users how long their draws are.
As it is an upgrade from the Koopor Mini, the display and all the information is identical to it. The menu however, is slightly different. There are 4 main icons, some of which leads to submenus. Of course, there is the mode to fine tune the power delivered to the atomizer, choosing between minimum to maximum. There is also a puff counter icon which allows users to keep track of howm any puffs they have taken. I have tested the Koopor Plus at many different wattages, including 30 watts up to 160 watts. Safe to say, it performs wonderfully, firing perfectly with minimal ramp up time.
To Buy or Not To Buy?
In all seriousness, I would state that the Koopor Plus is relatively similar to the SMOK X Cube 2, disregarding the bells and lights which adds to the fancy. The Koopor Plus further houses a higher power output, but despite having such power, it wouldn’t really make much of a difference seeing as the average vapor enthusiast wouldn’t use the high wattage as often enough to make it worth its value (low watts = pure taste and a smoother smoke, right?). What sets the Kooper Plus aside from the rest is definitely the price. I’m talking normal high end mods average around a minimum of $70 but the Kooper Plus only goes for $50 USD which is currently such an unbeatable price it would be foolish to let the deal slide. All in all, the Kooper Plus gets a thumbs up from me and is definitely a good buy for those power chasers.
