The Cuboid 150 watts is one of the latest mods released by
Joyetech which seems to be doing fairly well in the vape market. It’s a temperature controlled and variable wattage box mod. The Cuboid 150 fits perfectly with the Joyetech Cubic’s 3.5ml tank. I will be going through all the features of this new powerful mod, and see what all the buzz surrounding it is about.
Price
The Cuboid only retails at around $40 USD, a fairly cheap price in terms of power. This is one of the cheapest mods with power outputs above 100 watts. Looking at Joyetech’s history, they are known for making beautiful and high quality mods, however their price is not usually this low. Lets look if the performance is on par with Joyetech’s usual high quality.
Features
First off, the Cuboid has a maximum output of up to 150 wattages, meaning that it is a mod meant for large plumes of clouds. Currently, there is a new update allowing it to fire up to 200 watts! Not that many users will need it , but still, more watts is better! The Cuboid also has a good range of temperature control settings. Among the various settings, there is a function which allows you to adjust to a specific temperature parameter. At the front of the Cuboid 150, there is a neat OLED display screen which measures at decent 0.96 inches. Similarly to all other high performing mods in the market, the Cuboid has the ability to fire to as low as 0.1 ohms accommodating nickel, stainless steel and titanium wires. The Cuboid also integrates Joyetech’s easy to adjust temperature coefficient resistance which allows you to set precise and accurate parameters on the mod. This unique feature has set the Cuboid 150 ahead of all its competitors as this is the first of its kind in the market today.
As for external looks, the Cuboid has a slick and smooth design which rests with comfort at hand and a handy switch which may be easily operated with a single hand for any adjustment needs. At the bottom of the Cuboid lies a unique design which hasn’t been seen before: a battery door functioned via a locking hinge. This ensures security of your 18650 batteries without fear of any loose ends falling apart. Do note that the batteries don’t come as part and parcel with the box (I made the fatal error of buying my Cuboid, all super excited, went home straight after without buying batteries and had to run to the store again to get some – talk about waste of time and frustration/disappointment)! Now, incorporated in the Cuboid 150 is a gold plated spring 510 thread and a stainless steel thread. These two threads have been added to enhance the durability of the Cuboid.
User Experience
Alright, I will start off with the packaging. It is a really simple and basic Joyetech box, nothing too special. Just to ensure customer satisfaction, an authentication certificate is included in the box. You also get a good user manual that’s a thorough step-by-step walk through of all the features and functions of the Cuboid 150.
I would definitely recommend users to at read through the manual at least once before using since the instructions have been laid to be clear and precise. I would like to point out that when it comes to first impressions, the style and structure of the Cuboid 150 is similar to the eVic’s VTC Mini. Both the shape and the size is similar in neat lines running from the top to the bottom as well as an almost identical display screen. The Cuboid however, uses two batteries and thus the larger shape. Setting aside the extra weight and size, it actually feels very good when place firmly in my hand as it isn’t too heavy and the firm grip over the round edges and smooth surface enhances the comfortable touch.
There are three big points which Joyetech did not cover in the specifications, and I think that these are quite important for a lot of vapers. These 3 things are the custom TCR values, the maximum power outage, and the upgradable firmware. The custom TCR values are a big deal for intermediate to advanced vapers, and i felt that Joyetech should have made a bigger deal out of it in the specification list. As for the maximum power outage, the Cuboid with the original firmware is rated at 150 watts, however there was a recent update which brings the mod up to 200 watts maximum output. Although not many users will really even use any output more than 150 watts, there are still niches of vapers who go high power all the time.
A nice feature that I would like to remind users is that there is a screen protector for the OLED screen! In the beginning, I noticed some scratches and rubs in the screen, but it turns out to be a screen protector. The Cuboid also allows charging by USB, however this is definitely not recommended for users. It would be more safer to charge the batteries
externally, as this helps to prolong battery life and the chip.
The display is one of the largest available on a mod, and therefore there is a lot of information that you can see when in use. One feature that I really like is that the display has a dual battery ndicator, giving a view of the charge status of both batteries at once. It also has a feature to change the bottom line of the display to several data points, depending on what users prefer. Users can change the data points to the working amperage of the device while in use, the number of puffs taken in a set time, or the time in seconds since they have started using the mod.
As for the performance, the Cuboid performed wonderfully with the stock 3.0 firmware. Temperature control appears to be on spot, and battery life has been tremendous so far. After I had upgraded to the new firmware, there was no difference in performance, other than the jump from 150 watts to 200 watts.
Overall
Vapers following the market lately could see that mods seems to be getting bigger and bigger. Joyetech has managed to successfully squeeze all the latest features and technology into a small and compact size, yet manage to make it run with dual batteries. I have no major complaints about this mod, and it performs flawlessly for me. In my opinion, this is one of the most advanced vape mods on the market, suitable for both temperature control lovers and also cloud chasers. This is by far one of the smallest dual battery mods that I have ever used. The bottom line is that with the high power that it offers and the fairly small size, the price is extremely decent and affordable. Both new and advanced vapers would love this mod, seeing as it packs all the features a vaper would need.
