The SMY 170 watts is a temperature control mode from SiMeiYue, a chinese company known for their SMY mods. It is sleek and has high power, up to 170 watts, and comes with temperature control and also their famous large coloured LCD screen! The retail price for the SMY 170 watts is around $100 USD, slightly pricey compared to other mods. Users could get it cheaper at other websites which offers it at around $80 USD.

User Experience
The SMY 170 TC comes in two colours, a sleek smooth black with a white emblem, or a clean white with a black emblem. The body itself is a lightly textured aluminium, and also has rounded sides which makes it really comfortable to grip. The screen itself is huge, occupying almost half the whole front cover, and this gives a lot of info.
The SMY 170 TC comes equipped fully with temperature control. What really attracts most users to SMY mods is the large LCD colour screen. The LCD screen is clear and easy to read, and allows quick easy chang
es to settings without needing to slowly browse through a list of options. Although this is generally a standard feature for all mods to have a spring loaded 510, not all mods do contain this, which is a huge perk considering SMY has one. The main point of a spring loaded 510 is so that users do not have to adjust the screw, which is quite a hassle. The sliding off battery cover makes changing the battery a snap, and because it is being channelled, there is no need to worry about the door coming off or sliding off in the event the mod is dropped.
The SMY 170 TC is really solid, and I like how it feels such as all the buttons are tightly fitted, no rattling whatsoever. A small issue is that the sliding door does seem to have a very slight rattle, however it’s very minor. The battery compartment is quite bare, and it would be nice to see a plastic channel inserted in there. The battery terminal springs however, are very well placed and it fits the batteries snugly.
The SMY 170 TC also features atomizer detection, whereby it will verify if the atomizer is the same or a new one with the user. I really seeing this feature integrated into box mods, as it makes things so much simpler without having to navigate through lists of menus just to change the settings.
Temperature control is also another major feature of the SMY 170 TC, which supports the usual nickel, titanium, and kanthal wires. One cool feature that I liked about the SMY 170 TC is the stealth option. This option works very well for extending battery life, however if you want to use it for stealthiness, it would not exactly be ideal due to the size of the mod itself.
The weight and size of t
he SMY 170 TC is about the same as most dual battery mods. With the new rounded sides however, it makes it more comfortable to hold without any poking of edges. It does lack a rubberized coating compared to the Sigelei Fuchai, however the texture still makes it fairly slip free, even with soft grips. While the buttons are not badly placed, it would still be nice for them to be within thumb reach, as users with small hands may find themselves using two hands just to change the settings. Performance wise, the SMY 170 TC does a great job, and I really like how it fires at higher wattages. Several of my builds, including some as low as 0.10 ohms firing at 150 watts, had no issues at such high wattages. Some other mods tend to have a problem of reducing the watts at high wattages due to overheating. One thing that it does lack however, is dry coil detection. For most temperature control mods, dry coil detection allows the mod to cut it off when the wick is dry. This would be quite a major drawback for users who use the mod for temperature control.
This mod would be suitable for any vapers looking for an upgrade to higher power and without the need to swap batteries frequently. With 170 watts, it is more than enough power for most users, and also has temperature control built into it. It will be able to handle most builds, and I think that I am satisfied with it.
Overall
Overall, the SMY 170 TC is a great mod with nice features and very little drawbacks. I would say that it is however, slightly more pricey compared to many other dual battery mods out there. The looks of it is stunning, as it is the only mod so far with a colour LCD screen. It is an interesting mod to try out, and as it is solidly built, this could last users for up to years.
