After the release of popular devices like the SMOK X Cube 2 and the X cube mini mods, the CHINESE manufacturer SMOK seems to determined to keep the momentum going with more impressive products. The r80 TC starter kit is a complete package which hass been specially designed to aid in the ease of vaping for all ranges of users from the experts to the inexperienced. The SMOK TFV4 Micro, a mini TFV4 sub ohm tank, has been incorporated into the SMOK r80. These two forms the SMOK Micro one kit, aimed for those new to high wattage vaping and cloud chasing.
The r80 is an upgraded version of the SMOK m80 + , and the designs look identical. I will go through all features of this new, tiny mod which is one of SMOK’s pride.

Price
The SMOK r80 retails at around $40 USD, may be slightly higher on different websites. Lets take a look at all the features that this mod has.
Features
Like the m80, the SMOK r80 also features in-built batteries with a capacity of 4000 mAh! The SMOK r80 has a maximum output of 80 watts, just like the m80. It charges using only USB, which is really convenient and easy for new to intermediate vapers, as it saves them the costs of external batteries and charger. The SMOK r80 also supports full temperature control, and could support nickel, titanium, and stainless steel wires. It features a three button operation and intelligent atomizer recognition. Like all other regulated mods, the SMOK r80 has an over heating protection (which is great when it comes to maintenance and durability), short circuit protection (to avoid any internal wires acting crazy), low battery protection, and a 12 second cut-off protection. I will be going into details regarding the features below.
User Experience
With the SMOK r80 starter kit, it comes with a tank which is really convenient and easy for vapers both new and advanced! Unlike other advanced mods, you need to buy and charge batteries separately, and also a tank or RBA in order to start vaping. For the SMOK r80, all users need is just some eliquid and they’re good too go. The SMOK r80 is considerably smaller than the gigantic X Cube 2, but similar in size to the X Cube Mini. It is a very nicely shaped size, and is easy to carry in both hand and pocket.
On the top and bottom of the device, there are some nice stainless steel plates that I think goes very well with the stainless steel micro TFV4, and on one of the side, there’s the usual firing button and the plus minus button. Very similar to the m80 like I said, as this is the ‘big brother’ of the m80. On the bottom, there are some small vent holes, and a micro USB port used for both charging and updates. Like the m80, the built in batteries is one of the most useful features that I really like, not just for beginners. It is really convenient to bring your mod out for the day, and if it gets low, just plug the USB charger into it and charge it anywhere, even in your car! It only takes about 1 hour to reach full charge, which is crazily fast for some reason.
One drawback that I found is that the buttons on the r80 sometimes tends to rattle, and this may annoy users sometimes. As for the OLED display, it is similar to the Koopor ones, yet considerably brighter, so SMOK is definitely improving their quality. I wont be going too much into detail about the menu and button combinations, as it is all the same as the other SMOK mods such as the X Cube 2, or the m80.
Of course like all the other advanced devices, SMOK has built the various vaping modes ranging from min to max, coil type selection, coil resistance lock, and some other goodies. While the SMOK r80 may not be their most powerful mod up to date, it is still powerful enough to satisfy most vapers. In fact, with the built in batteries, I would say that the r80 is more for users who are casual and likes to go out with their mods.
One significant improvement from the m80 is that the temperature control on the r80 works really well. The m80’s temperature control was more for display, and could not really function well. All the right coefficients for the various supported materials are preset, but users have the option to alter those settings.
One of the things that I really liked about this mod is that there is no firing delay. The X Cube Mini had a horrendous delay that had to be fixed through a firmware update, but the r80 fires up at an almost instant rate when taken straight out of its box. SMOK seems to be doing a good job from learning through its previous mistakes and improvements are definitely visible in the r80. If you’re worried about the mini size of the TFV4 sub ohm tank, rest assured it really does work well and performs at an arguably great rate as good as its bigger brother. Design wise, the micro TFV4 is just a smaller version of the original TFV4 tank. It has the same four adjustable airflow holes on the base, and the exact same top filling system that I really loved. One drawback is that the micro version could hold 2.5ml of liquid, and while it may be a reasonable amount for most other tanks, the TFV4 family is known for drinking juice very quickly.
Luckily, SMOK has got users covered whereby the micro TFV4 may be extended with an extra millilitre of liquid with the extension included in the kit! Refilling it is a breeze thanks to the top filling system, a feature that all users really liked. The tank also comes with an RBA, allowing advanced users to rebuild their own coils just the way they like it!
Overall
Overall, SMOK gear has always been much cheaper than their competition, but they are really pushing it with this Micro One starter kit. A 80 wattage mod which comes with a really good tank?! I doubt you could find any packages more ideal than this. The mod itself performs wonderfully, with up to 80 wattages of power! I would highly recommend considering the SMOK Micro One package for intermediate users or beginners.
