Most people are prone to quickly believe that the e-cigarette is a recent invention and it comes as a great surprise these devices we’re actually invented over 5 decades ago. Back in those days, little attention was given to the smokeless cigarette. Health issues we’re not known yet and people of all classes indulged in tobacco smoking. Additionally, this was a feat to say the least for its day and age and small components we’re not cheap to lack of technology and made production cost too high to make it viable.
In recent years, the invention re-surfaced and has been developed at a blazing fast pace. With the technology available, it is easily possible to create micro-components such as atomizers with ease, and small batteries continue to evolve and improve. With the electronic cigarette becoming better at a fast pace, the market share of smokers making the switch to vaping has continued to increase at a rapid rate. Today they are so popular, that even large tobacco corporations are starting to buy in on popular brands or starting their own. It is believed that in the next years, electronic cigarettes might overtake traditional tobacco sales.
The First Patented Electronic Cigarette – 1963
The true origins are still debated, but the public knowledge of electronic cigarettes came to light in 1963, when a man by the name of Herbert Gilbert filed to patent the smokeless cigarette. Due to the lack of knowledge of the health hazards smoking caused, the interest was minimal. Cigarettes we’re as in as possible, everyone was smoking from pregnant women to doctors. The ignorance was so high that cigarettes we’re freely advertised as health products. Other problems included the cost of production not being commercially viable due to the task of making it small and portable. Until now, it lay dormant and forgotten.
The Modern Electronic Cigarette Is Born – 2000
Hon Lik is known as the inventor of the modern electronic cigarette. A pharmacist by trade in China, Hon Lik was on a mission to find a better
alternative to tobacco after the loss of his father to lung cancer disease from years of smoking. He knew he had to find a way to still provide the nicotine that causes smoking addiction and knew the trouble was the combusted smoke containing all the harsh chemicals. He was able to think of the same idea had over 50 years ago, to administer a smoke-like vapor by creating steam with a heating element known today as an ‘Atomizer’. The nicotine would be added to the liquid used to vaporize to match the same concentration needed by the smoker. Hon Lik is now a popular public figure in his domain and is revered as the founding father of the electronic cigarette.
The Electronic Cigarette Today – 2014
This Spring 2014, electronic cigarettes continue to make waves. Users have now increased to multiple millions across the globe. Although lots of uncertainty about their safety looms over mainstream media, most of it was founded by false reports originating from Tobacco giants. It is important to buy genuine products and preferably directly from the merchant. Cheap overseas products cannot be considered completely safe. With that said, there is no shortage of trustworthy quality brands, we just have to be more vigilant due to the increased popularity and market growth in the past years. Tobacco giants are now purchasing established brands or starting their own, because they themselves have come to terms with the benefits that e-cigs present. As more and more studies are completed, the verdict is clear, vaping is the best alternative to smoking to date and today’s best e-cigarettes deliver a very similar experience that has proven to please smokers by the millions.
