In this article we plan to go over one of our favorite brands, Volcano. Volcano is one of the true innovators in the industry. We’ve already gone on at length about their highly successful Volcano LavaTube in another article. Today we take a look at the slightly more lower end offerings, namely The Magma and The Inferno. Each offer superior quality relative to their price range and rank among the industry leaders.

Design:

Magma:

The magma is definitely intended for the uninitiated. The pack and units are made to very closely resemble the look and feel of traditional tobacco cigarettes. These will feel very natural to someone who doesn’t feel comfortable with all the frills of one of those large tank systems. It sports the simple two piece design that has become the standard in the industry; with the battery housed in the body of the cigarette while the “filter” holds the flavour cartridge and the atomizer. According to their website this unit is ideal for those who used to smoke about half a pack to a full pack per day. One thing we really like about this unit was the cartomizers which are essentially small tank systems you can refill. Inferno:

The Inferno definitely has a distinctive modern look to it as it really more closely resembles a Lavatube than a traditional cigarette. If this is your first foray into vaping you may be unsatisfied by the look and feel which differs greatly from cigarettes. I promise if you take the time to get over it long enough to try it you will see what the fuss is about! The inferno is the most popular midsized starter currently available, among any brand. This features a full tank design which Volcano has polished and refined over multiple iterations of the Lavatube. The tank and heating coils are easily replaceable and replacement parts are cheap if ever something should go wrong. As it is a tank system it gives you the full gamut of Volcanos flavor banks. The inferno also comes in your choice red, black, white, blue, green, silver, pink, and purple.

Battery Life:

Magma:

The battery life of the M Class batteries is ok but not great. Given that this is the lowest priced package we were expecting a drop of in performance but this product offers just one hour of continuous use. This is less than we were hoping for and the prospect of a heavy smoker having to change the battery so often may discourage some users. The batteries are also automatic which means you won’t be able to control the intake of vapor as well as with a manual unit. All in all the battery is acceptable but nothing to write home about. One cool feature of this product is that the carrying case doubles up as the charger. To recharge your battery you simply insert and screw in the battery completely in the charging slot. In reality when you plug the case in you are charging the case which then in turn charges the battery. This means that in addition to your two batteries you can carry roughly 4-5 extra charges in the carrying case itself!

Inferno:

The Inferno starter pack comes with two standard batteries each of which has pass-through (manual) capabilities. This provides you much more freedom over the throat hit you receive. The batteries come in the 650 mAH and 900 mAH capacities. Volcano claims that a fully charged battery should have you ready to go for up to 15 hours of vapers! This is a significant improvement over the magma kit for just 20 more dollars and really gives the user a much better chance at sticking with it.

Vapor Quality/Volume:

Magma:

The vapor quality and volume are really not so bad for the price range but the vapor is a little thin when compared with the advanced kit. Not unlike many of the lower end e-cigarettes the flavours seem a little dulled and the throat hit is good but just not quite right. It’s a good bargain product but I would not recommend it for long time or heavy smokers. Some users have reported being able to get a more powerful hit by blocking one or both of the air intake holes on the side of the cartridge.

Inferno:

The Inferno often draws huge praise from its users in regards to vapor volume and throat hit. After digging through some forums there are former smokers who absolutely swear by it insisting the size and form were a little strange at first but they were instantly sold once they tried it! The tank is so easy to load and produces vapor so fantastic it’s almost surprising for such an inexpensive unit. This is one of the favorites among the vaping community and with good reason. We highly recommend this unit to anyone not willing to spend the big bucks for an ultimate kit. This is elite performance at mid-level prices.

Flavors:

As has become the norm among the big name manufactures, Volcano has a vast selection of flavours to choose from. For the truly courageous, you can select a couple of bottles and create your own flavour blends. One of the nice things about volcano units is that they all use e-liquid so you won’t be stuck buying juice for some products and cartomizers for others; unless you really want to of course. Personal favorites include Pele’s Papaya, Salted Caramel, Waikiki Watermelon, and Maui Mango. I also got a good chuckle out of some of the other flavour names. The first ones to come to mind are Surfer Soda, Kohala Bear, Shark’s Clove, and Red Wings. There flavour catalogue is among the best in the industry, just like everything else they do.

This kit includes 2 Magma batteries with automatic draw, a USB charger, wall adapter, cable, two 5-packs of cartomizers in the flavour of your choosing, and finally the M Carrying case which looks like a traditional pack of cigarettes. The M-Case can carry both of your batteries and 5 flavour cartridges. That means you’re carrying the equivalent of roughly 12.5 packs of cigarettes in a case the size of one pack! Inferno:

But ultimately, we don’t choose it based on the look but on the feel do we? For the experienced smoker especially, getting a good satisfying throat hit is so important to the process of quitting that I’m convinced it’s worth to go for the most expensive packs. Long time and heavy smokers are often the most hesitant to spend a lot of money because they feel like they won’t be able to overcome their addiction and so aren’t willing to put that money down. Ironically, they’re the ones that have the most to gain from the investment. The Inferno comes in at just $20 more expensive than the Magma retailing at $79.99. We feel the extra money is well worth it considering how much more you receive. It features a tank that is incredibly easy to refill and works very efficiently.0 I was amazed to get a full day out of heavy, borderline abusive, use out of a full tank. In addition to that you get the two manual batteries in 650 and 900 mAH versions; good for 15 hours of vapin, a wall charger, mini usb cable, 3 replacement heating coils, and a 15ml bottle of e-juice. Top that off with their fantastic warranty and you see why so many people swear by them.

Conclusion:

Volcano has, unsurprisingly, created two industry leading products in their respective price ranges. When considering that they have the Lavatube as well you can see that Volcano is truly one of the best E-cig manufactures that are around today. Whether we’re talking about the Magma which offers great value for its bargain price, or The Inferno which offers elite performance at mid-tier prices, it’s become clear; Volcano is the real deal and deserves all the praise.
