When the season starts getting nippy, it is not just the holiday season that is around the corner; the flu season is not too far either. This usually starts as early as October and lasts until February. If you are a vaper, the advent of the flu season is something you must watch out for. ‘tis the time to pay close attention to vaping and e-cig hygiene habits to steer clear of flu.
How do you stay a happy and healthy vaper during this flu season?
- Avoid swapping vaping supplies. Generosity is a great virtue, but it can be your pitfall. If you are the type who swap vaping supplies with family and friends, watch out for you are vulnerable to catching the influenza virus more than a vaper who keeps his supplies to himself. If you can’t help but share your device, change the mouth-piece after someone used it or before you use it. The drip tip or mouthpiece can directly transmit the virus into your mouth and lungs fast this way.
- Clean you device properly and regularly. Nothing beats the flu virus better than proper cleaning of the device. Prevent the spread of the “bug” by giving your device a thorough cleaning every so often. Even if you are not in the habit of swapping, it is necessary to regularly and properly clean your device for several reasons. It can extend the battery life of your device, provide you with improved cloud production and give you a clean taste of your favorite the e-juice.
How do you clean your device properly? First, take apart the various components of the device. Wipe the connection area of the battery before putting it aside. Immerse the drip tip (or mouthpiece), atomizer head, base and tank into a glass with rubbing alcohol for about 5 minutes. Rinse the components with water and dry them using clean paper towel or cloth. Put the parts together before refilling with e-juice and savoring your vape.
- Get a flu vaccine every year. CDC advises that getting vaccinated is the single best way to prevent seasonal flu. This is particularly important for vapers considered high-risk to viral infections, with compromised immune system or if you are constantly around kids.
- Stick to good health habits. You can also stop flu virus from spreading with basic healthy habits. Avoid people with flu and stay home when you are sick yourself. Cover your mouth with a tissue when sneezing; alternatively, sneeze into your elbow when you can’t hold it. Wash your hands properly with soap and water (or clean them with alcohol) often especially when there are sick people around, and avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose so as not to transmit the virus if your hands are contaminated.
It doesn’t take much to stay healthy and to protect those around you through the flu season and all year round. All it takes is embracing these tips and make them your regular habit. Here’s to a healthy and happy vaping season!
