With the wake of new regulations being imposed by the FDA on all electronic cigarette products, some major manufacturers of e-cigarettes in the United States have begun to move back all manufacturing on home soil from China. The decision is being made solely on the new quality assurance demands that the FDA regulations come with. Safety of nicotine e-liquid has been a focus and the new regulations will require for tight production standards and quality control.
According to a Reuters report, two of those companies are Mistic and White Cloud, having announced setting up new production facilities that will bring all manufacturing to U.S. factories. This will ease the transition into the new regulations that require for ingredients to be disclosed and quality be consistent. China, being the originating place of the modern smokeless cigarette, offers production at lower costs, and bringing all manufacturing back home to these companies means cost of production will possibly increase.
However, the manufacturers see this as a necessary step, as concern over quality and safety is growing. The FDA is not only looking to have disclosed ingredients, they also want to have a hand in the production process itself. That is one of the main reasons e-cigarette companies have started the move, to ease the compliance process and ensure that they will continue to be allowed to sell on the market.
However, China remains one of the biggest battery manufacturers and they will most likely all remain in Chinese factories. The quality of many of these reputable e-cigarette brands remains very high, and just like many name brand electronics, production in China is not a bad thing.
Many brands already produce their e-liquids in the U.S. and ship it to China to complete the product assembly with the batteries. Those will most likely bring no change as the main e-cigarettes and batteries will remain being built in China. NJOY is an example mentioned, as being already producing e-liquid in the U.S. and do not plan to change their assembly factories China.
But some of these brands, such as White Cloud, say that bringing assembly and e-liquid filling process home will not only ensure better quality, but also allow them to develop a better product. They say they will be able to provide satisfying vapor from first to last puff using their new system. All we can hope for is for prices to remain the same or continue to lower and better quality is never a bad thing either. So for now, it’s all win win.
