According to a recent Wall Street Journal blog article on vaporizers, PVs are now growing in sales two times faster than e-cigarette devices made to resemble their analogue counterpart. Many users whom chose to try out vaping as an alternative, will stick to e-cigarette lookalikes but a good portion of users will eventually upgrade to a personal vaporizer (PV).
Although compact electronic cigarettes are easy to market and sell, and offer a simple, easy to use device that can be transported with ease, many are making the upgrade to PVs, so the question is why?. These personal vaporizer devices, often called “MODS” or “Vapor Tanks”, are more advanced in terms of functions and customizable options. They offer a more specialized product for the advanced vapers while still providing big advantages even to beginners. Although more complex, they are not all that hard to operate and maintain, making them a viable choice for newcomers alike.
PVs or MODS, ultimately take the role of the eventual upgrade for someone that switched from tobacco to e-cigarettes. They offer much longer battery life, easily lasting a full day before needing to be charged and better performance overall. The vaping experience is usually better, providing the user with a variable amount of vapor to satisfy a wider audience. They offer the user to mix and match tanks and atomizers from different manufacturers, allowing customizable options for all. Additionally the tanks hold much more e-liquid than a small e-cig cartomizer can. Make sure to check out our Personal Vaporizers guide to learn more.
Additionally to having variable power and customizable functions, they also end up saving the user some money. Filling up tanks with e-liquid of their choice from the manufacturer of their choice, is a bit cheaper than purchasing disposable cartridges found on e-cigs. Although many e-cig brands also offer re-fillable options, it is still something to consider.
According to the report, personal vaporizers have already grown to be one third of the $2.2 billion dollar electronic cigarette market and that it will most likely continue to rise, as vapers seek higher performance devices. Electronic cigarette manufacturers will have to keep advancing their product to close the gap between the performance levels they offer vs. MODS.
They also offer a last resort for ex-smokers that failed to make the switch using standard smokeless electronic cigarettes. We often advise smokers who we’re left unsatisfied with e-cigs to try out a MOD or Personal Vaporizer instead. They extra variable power allows for more vapor to be delivered, producing a better hit for the user and often please the heavy smokers who need that extra power.
Additionally, being able to tone down the e-liquid nicotine content by using more than one tank, users can easily switch to 0% nicotine liquid for sheer vaping enjoyment while decreasing dependency. The same can be done with e-cigarette cartridges, but if left alone for too long, they tend to dry up faster.
Overall the advantages are valuable, but it remains a question of personal taste. The devices are much larger and don’t simply fit in your pocket. Using them in public is much less discreet and can be cumbersome.
